Malgrat de Mar, as well as being important in the tourist sector, has also been a long-standing centre in terms of agriculture, as well as sea and industrial commerce. Since 2007, the town has been recognised as an official Family Tourism Destination by the Catalan Government. With beaches over four and a half kilometres long, visitors can see native plant life in the dunes or enjoy ample space for leisure, sports and adventure activities. The beach of La Conca and the beach at La Punta del Riu Tordera comprise a protected area over two and a half kilometres long, with wonderful views over the river mouth.
While strolling through the town’s streets, tourists will come across an impressive selection of restaurants and shops. Culture is also a prominent factor, as the town’s historic centre boasts numerous monuments and historical buildings.
